Whats Happening in my Shop

Ok, I’m no welder but I want to thank my buddies @ruutfab for letting an old dog try to learn new tricks. Hanging out with Randall, Brian, Jason, and Patrick as Randall is bringing his concept of a modular chassis jig to life. I’ve been trying to learn TIG welding on thin sheet metal for auto restoration but it is kind of fun to just blast through some fabrication MIG welding on the chassis jig legs. Thanks again to Partin Powder Coating in Dallas, GA for some nice spare wheels in Rally Silver for the Alfa Romeo Spider and GTV. Alfa Romeo GTV6 transaxle finally coming back together after spending a couple weeks traveling back and forth to Massachusetts for Wray Schelin’s Metalshaping class…highly recommended BTW. Proshaper.com @proshaper Working on my Alfa GTV Hood with Wray Schelin in Mass. Main shaft and pinion shaft stack reinstalled into the intermediate flange. New synchro sleeves on 1-2 and 3-4. Turned the 5 sleeve around as reverse does not have a synchro. New synchro rings on 2 and 3. Flipped the ring on 5 around. Getting closer. Second gear all done. Better dog gear pressed on and a new synchro ring installed. Salvaging a used dog gear off an old 4th gear to replace a bad one on the transaxle I’m rebuilding. Made up a press plate out of a 6 inch piece of tool steel to remove the dog gear. You can see the difference between a good dog gear and one that is gonna grind when shifting between gears. Bad one has short rounded over teeth… good one nice and pointy sharp teeth. Now just need to press the good one on to make my “new” second gear. Rebuilt the door hinges for the Alfa 74 GTV. Stripped the paint, sandblasted the castings and put them through a media tumbler. Then installed new bushings and pins. Had to try them out by hanging the driver side door. Worked great!!! This car might be ready when this guy turns 16…… Time for another Alfa transaxle rebuild…
